Hadley's Birthday

Before:

On Wednesday morning I had my routine doctor's appointment. We found that I was 2 centimeters dilated and almost fully effaced and I was in early labor. Dr. Michelsen and I agreed that our plan for the induction on Thursday was still the best plan. I left her office and called Derek and my mom and sister to let them know the plan! I met my mom and sister for an early lunch at our favorite Frisco spot, 5th Street Cafe and did some shopping for the girls. I came home and to get my bag for the hospital finalized and to relax! I got a hair cut and then got a phone call from my doctor's office. It was Dr. Michelsen telling me that Baylor Frisco was full and that they weren't going to have a room for me that next morning! My doctor also has rights at Centennial Frisco and she said we could go there or wait until Baylor was available, but Dr. M was going out of town for Thanksgiving! Yikes! My mom and I went straight to Centennial to take a tour of the L&D unit since I haven't even seen the hospital. It was a great hospital (except for they thought I was 16 years old and gave my mom the paperwork for her to fill out since I was a "minor"!!) and we decided to go ahead with our plan and have Hadley there. I called Dr. Michelsen to let her know and she said that we could wait until the morning and if Baylor didn't call by 5 am then we could just go ahead and show up there. It was so hard to not have a set plan, but all that mattered was that I was going to have a healthy baby the next day!!

Derek and I ate our favorite Italian take out and watched a movie and relaxed at home. We packed up the car and tried to go to bed early. We layed in bed and talked until 1 am or so because we were too excited to sleep! I woke up at 4:45 and took one last bath and waited for the hospital to call. They didn't so off we went to Baylor!!

The night before Hadley
During:

We checked in at about 6 and we were taken right to our room. We had a great big room with a huge window. I had requested the nurse that helped with Caroline's delivery and Derek and I were so blessed that Kim was available for our special day too! Our families came early that morning and were so supportive while I was in labor. I labored most of the morning and got my epidural around 11. The rest of the day went by quickly and smootly and I was 10 cm by 4 pm. When Dr. Michelsen got there everyone left the room and it was just Derek and me. Derek was so amazing during this whole experience and I truly couldn't have done it without him. I love him more today than I ever have. After an hour or so of pushing little Hadley was born at 6:13 pm just two minutes before our beloved nurse had to leave!!

After:

After her birth, we were taken to post-partum to sleep and get to know sweet Hadley. They gave her her bath in the room and little one did not like that! My family went to dinner near the hospital and then brought us some pizza from Palio's. After almost 24 hours without eating I was so starving! The food at the hospital was amazing. We were brought three meals a day and even had a steak and lobster dinner on our last night! Derek and I sure did enjoy three hot meals a day! We spent two nights in the hospital and went home early Saturday afternoon. Derek and I couldn't believe they let us leave with her! She was perfect on the way home and we had so much fun giving her a tour of her new home! I'll write about our first night home soon!

Quick Update

Hi all! We came home from the hospital Saturday night and everything is going great! I'll write more about our first night home later, but she is a great sleeper so far. She loves to be on Derek's or my chest and is a snuggly little thing. Here is a a quick little picture of our babe. I can't tell you how much I love her already.

Hadley Carol Johnson

We wanted to give a quick update on our little one. Hadley was born last night at 6:13, weighs 6 pounds 11 ounces and is 17 inches long! She is more beautiful than we could have ever imagined and we are so in love. I will write a longer blog about Hadley's birthday when I have a little more energy! I am feeling good and I appreciate all of your thoughtful emails and thoughts! Here are some pictures of our daughter:

Awfully Bright

Derek is such a trooper. A few days a week he volunteers is forced to come in the nursery with me and look at all of the baby's things. He has patiently looked at her toys, clothes and gadgets several times. Hey, you never know when there is an emergency and he will have to locate her Christmas leggings (so cute!!!) in a flash. I've also showed him all the strollers-how the diaper bag fits on them, how they all fold down and how you can turn them with one hand. (One hand!! I love coming up with senarios when I'll need that extra hand.) Well, the other night during one of my stroller "shows" I asked him which one was his favorite. He so sweetly looked up from the sports he was watching (at the time there was baseball, football and basketball on- it was an exhausting night) and said, "Well babe, they are awfully bright". I swear to goodness I squealed out loud! That was exactly what I was going for!

In case you were dying to know, here are my bright strollers!

Who knew one tiny baby needed so many ways to get around town?

The Grand Tour

Hadley's room is finally finished and I wanted to share it with you! Thank you to everyone who helped in making her room so special. Derek and I will be so proud to bring her home to her room in a few short weeks!

The frames will soon be filled with her newborn pictures!

I love the curtains, and I know I will spend a lot of time in this chair!

Nothing too exciting about her tiny closet, but I love my new shelves from Container Store!

Today I am 37 weeks and I'm still feeling great!

9 Months

How far along: 36 weeks
Sleeping: Trying to get a lot of sleep, but its not going so great! Trying to get comfortable is getting hard! My favorite place to "rest" is in Hadley's rocker. I guess that's a good thing!
Best Moment of the Week: Derek finally getting home. Derek has been traveling the last 3 weeks. I usually don't mind when he travels, but when I'm 9 months pregnant I NEED him home!
Movement: It's definitely different but still happening.
Cravings: Nothing too different lately. Dr. Pepper has been my favorite beverage since week 20 or so.
What I am looking forward to: Seeing what (and who!)  Hadley looks like. And for my feet to not be swollen. I have about 10 pairs of Tory Burch flats (my favorite!) that do NOT fit, which could be a big, big problem!
Milestones: Getting to the ninth month is a pretty big milestone! I've also starting packing my bag for the hospital- which is crazy!!

Things I've missed: I had to miss out on going to the Rangers World Series game, but I know Derek had a blast! Also, I am beginning to have carpal tunnel in my right hand, so if your expecting something handwritten from me, be patient! I am starting to write like my old third graders!
What I'll miss when I'm NOT pregnant: My new sassy attitude. My dad is always telling me to "be sweet" and I usually am. When presented with confrontation or if something goes wrong I usually never say anything. (i.e. when I got my oil changed and they called me a week later to tell me they didn't charge me enough and I needed to come in and pay the extra FIFTEEN dollars. Well, I drove out and paid it and didn't say anything...)  Lately I've had this awesome pregnancy sassy attitude. (i.e. Derek and I switched to DirecTV this month and 10 days after it was installed something MAJOR happened. Our DVR wouldn't play back anything. Well, that was a BIG problem because I had 8 episodes of unwatched Days of Our Lives. So I called, gave them some of my sassy attitude and they said they would get someone out within the next 2 weeks. I told them that was unacceptable and that I needed it fixed that day and that if I lost one episode of Days of Our Lives we would be canceling on the spot! Ha! They had someone out the next morning by 10 and thankfully I was able to watch all my recorded day time TV. The guy they sent out said he had six kids at home and knew better than to mess with a pregnant lady's TV shows.) Sorry, Dad...I'll go back to being sweet in 2 more weeks!!
Labor Signs: I have made some progress (small) but progress! As of last Thursday I am a little less than a centimeter dilated and 50% effaced. I've been nesting like crazy. This really does exist. I have vacuumed every room several times the last few days, done crazy laundry, and have organized all of Derek's clothes like 8 times. Note to self: next time do this at like 30 weeks not at 9 months pregnant! I think I scared Derek on Sunday because since the moment I woke up I was doing things around the house. I've also cleaned both of our cars and had them detailed last week. Yikes!

Derek and I are trying to enjoy these last couple of weeks of just us. This is by far the most exciting part of being pregnant. Everything is getting so close and I find myself daydreaming about our little family. The nursery is perfect and all it needs is a little baby.

Here is a terrible picture, but I'm sure I'll want to remember this belly one day! (right?!)
