5 Months

I can not believe I have a 5 month old. I guess that means I can't keep using the excuse that I just had a baby. I find myself using that a lot! Our life has changed so much in these last 5 months and I get so nostalgic about this time last year. Around Easter is when we told most of our families we were expecting and in a few short weeks sweet Emily will be one year old. I am in denial about that! I can not believe Em is growing up so fast and Hadley is just a few short months behind her!

We've had a lot of fun this month. Hadley is getting such a sweet personality. She is still sweet and laid back and very happy. Derek and I joke about how Hadley will never learn her real name because we use so many nicknames. Some of her nicknames are Hads, Haddy, Haddy-cake, Munchkin, Sugars...

Here is what life with our 5 month old is like:

Sleep: You are still a good sleeper, but you have started waking up once during the night for a quick feeding. We start bedtime around 8 and you still love being swaddled. You are so flexible and will do just fine if we have to put you to bed later. Around 1 you are wanting to eat, but you go right back to sleep. You'll sleep until about 7 to eat and go back to sleep until 10. You are still napping good during the day too!

Eating: This month your eating was very different. You are not nearly as interested in food as you have been. You are eating every 3-5 hours and it takes a long time to get you to finish your 4 ounces. We are planning on starting solids in a couple of weeks, but only if you will start drinking more milk during the day! You are only getting about 18-20 ounces in a 24 hour period, and that is on the low end of the recommended daily ounces.

Sizes: Just this week we have started making the switch to 3-6 month clothes! Your 0-3 still fits, but I'm just anxious to put you in the new clothes! You are still fitting in a size 1 diaper, but I put you in a 2 during the nighttime.

Things you love: You love the song "You are my sunshine", you love standing with help, you love sitting up with help, if the TV is on you love looking at it. Lately, we've been going on walks with Maverick in the baby carrier and you seem to love that too! You are such a happy baby that you love basically everything you do- except being in the carseat.

Activities: We do lots of playing now! You sit assisted with the boppy pillow and will play with your teething toys, books and stuffed animals. Also, once a day I put you in your highchair and you love looking outside while sitting in it.

New things you do: You make the sweetest expressions when I am talking to you, and if I'm in the room and you hear my voice you will search for me. When you find me you get so happy and have the biggest smile. You love standing and love to have your chubby legs as straight as they can go! You don't bend your legs much! You suck on your toesies and think its so funny if me or daddy do it to you. I'm hoping in the next few weeks you will start sitting unassisted.

Schedule: Your schedule during the day is very repetitive. You eat, play for about an hour and a half and then sleep for about 40-45 minutes. This happens every three hours and you are very predictable. We don't go off this schedule during the day. Your nighttime routine starts at about 8:30-9:00. We cuddle and wind down and after your last feeding I swaddle you and most night you will fall asleep while I am taking a shower and you are in your bouncer. I put you in your crib and you are out for the night! (Well until 1 or so!)

As much as I want you to stay a little baby, I am so excited for the next stage. Everyday gets better and I can't imagine life without you. We love you so much!
